Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning contest that saw the Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. MLB stated this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest averaged over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale featuring the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language program in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six innings – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise over last year and the network’s best postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
